about AURORA

What is AURORA?

AURORA is a free youth workforce and literacy program run by the Alaska Literacy Program (ALP) and funded through the federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA). It is designed for young Alaskans between the ages of 16 and 24 who are out of school and ready to take their next step - no matter where they are starting from.

How much does AURORA cost? 

AURORA is completely free for qualifying participants. All services are provided at no cost to you. If you are unsure whether you qualify, reach out and we will help you figure it out together - no judgment, no pressure.

What services does AURORA provide?

AURORA wraps together the support you need to move forward. Services include:
- Tutoring and alternative high school
     diploma or GED preparation
- Paid and unpaid work experience,   
     internships, and job shadowing
- Pre-apprenticeship programs and on-
     the-job training
- Occupational skills training and     
     career certification
- College and postsecondary education
     preparation
- Financial literacy and entrepreneurial
     skills training
- One-on-one mentoring, counseling,
      and guidance
- Supportive services (transportation,
     childcare, and more)
- Follow-up support after you complete
     the program

Who is eligible for AURORA?

AURORA serves out-of-school youth between the ages of 16 and 24. You may qualify if one or more of the following applies to you:

Life circumstances
- School dropout or not currently
   enrolled
- Pregnant or parenting
- Experiencing homelessness
- In or aged out of foster care
- A runaway

Personal barriers
- Low income or economically
   disadvantaged
- Basic skills deficient
- English language learner
- Individual with a disability
- Justice-involved or offender
